Still waiting.
\nHow long has it been?
\nI\u2019m restless,
\nLonging for resolution.
\nTrapped on a vague journey
\nWith the Road stretching endlessly before me
\nMore of the same behind.
\nPatience.
\nI need it, but the unknown
\nSeeps like fog over the windows
\nObscuring my view.
\nI fidget, trying to make sense of it all.
\nMy sleeve swipes the glass,
\nBut still the future is unclear.
\nWhy doesn\u2019t the map direct my way?
\nWhere is the crisp British voice
\nMispronouncing street names,
\nBut telling me turns to make.
\nI inspect my rearview mirror.
\nIt\u2019s exploding with past expectations and errors,
\nAnd can\u2019t be adjusted.
\nThe future and past swirl,
\nForcing bouts of car-sickness.
\nPatience.
\nI should display it, but instead
\nI hoist myself into the driver\u2019s seat
\nAnd accelerate
\nHoping to reach my destination more rapidly.
\nThe scenery barely changes
\nMile markers show time passing
\nBut I\u2019m no closer to my goal.
\nNo more.
\nI yank on the wheel
\nAnd jab random buttons on the dashboard.
\nThe car careens through detours and wrong turns and plunges into a ditch.
\nYou let me rant and flail my arms
\nUntil exhausted I crawl back into the passenger side
\nAnd buckle the seat belt.
\nBruised.
\nExhausted.
\nWith skilled hands You guide the car back onto the Road.
\nNo reprimands.
\nNo truckload of guilt.
\nI wait hopefully,
\nCurious to see where You drive.
\nI tighten the seat belt to restrain my arms
\nSo I can focus on enjoying You and the ride.
\nYour deep, quiet voice
\nSoothes my soul.
\nHave you been talking all along?
\nThe side windows clear,
\nRevealing other drivers,
\nPedestrians strolling on sidewalks,
\nMaple branches swaying,
\nClouds drifting in pastel-painted skies.
\nResolution will come in time.
\nUntil then I will trust.
\nI will lean back in my seat and practice
